Ombok was re-elected to serve for a second term to ensure that he will be the honcho of the federation for another four years

Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) President Anthony ‘Jamal’ Ombok has laid bare his ambitions for the boxing fraternity, which includes bringing back sponsors to the game.

Ombok was re-elected to serve for a second term to ensure that he will be the honcho of the federation for another four years in the controversial elections that were held on Saturday, 2 March 2025, at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

Speaking after his second term was confirmed, Ombok acknowledged the challenges that the federation and the sport have been facing but revealed that sponsors are in the pipeline.

“We have managed to sustain boxing despite operating without sponsors for the past five years. However, we have consistently improved with each step we take.

More progress is on the horizon, and once we finalize these sponsorship deals, it will mark a turning point for both local and international competitions,” said Ombok, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

The seasoned administrator who was elected unopposed disclosed that the federation is actively in talks with sponsors who will be integral in restoring the glory of boxing.

“We have engaged in discussions with two or three sponsors who are willing to support us in this new term. Our goal is to restore boxing to its former glory, and this requires collective support from all stakeholders,” he added.

In the elections, which saw 96 delegates drawn from the 32 county associations where each county had three representatives, former assistant treasurer Lydia Kinyua was elected as the first Vice President with Chrispine Onyango, the former assistant secretary elected as the second Vice President.

David Munehe and Benjamin Moses retained their Secretary General and Treasurer positions, respectively, in an election that was overseen by Sports Registrar Rose Wasike and officers from the State Department of Sports.
